Drum Scanning Services

Drum scans are the ultimate form of digitization of film and great care is given to each and every one of my own scans, and now I am happy to be offering that same service and quality to you. Scans will be provided to in either 16 bit LAB or Pro Photo RGB color space. Files will be delivered electronically via WeTransfer. Resolution will vary based on the film format and custom scans can be made at your request, but based on testing, I have determined the best optical resolution vs. film size for a scan, which I will provide by default.

Testimonials

Michael Strickland is my go-to guy for drum scans. This year alone, he has scanned over a dozen sheets of my film — each scan has been spot-on. He does a fantastic job retaining detail in the highlights and shadows, which is awesome to have when editing the scan in Photoshop. This allows me to produce a print that captures all the nuance of the original sheet of film. Whenever a customer of mine orders a print of one of my new photos, the first thing I do is send Michael the film. Turnaround time is very fast, and I really like how the file is sent to me electronically. I can start working on the print even before my original film arrives home. Thanks Michael for the great service!

In an increasingly digital industry, it is tough to find people who will care for my film with the same passion as I do. Michael is a film guy through and through, and applies the same standard of excellence when scanning my film as he does for his own. As a self published artist and gallery owner in the luxury market, I scrutinize my prints down to the finest details even when printed at massive sizes. The drum scans I get from Michael are razor sharp bringing out the full potential and unparalleled resolution of large format film.

About Drum Scans

A drum scanner is essentially a precision digital camera used to scan reflective and transparent materials at an extremely high resolution. It captures the image with analog light, producing the most detail possible in each color channel and then converts it to a digital file. With this, you achieve essentially noise-less shadow areas, increased detail in the shadows on transparency film, and overall increased sharpness and tonality. I accept both transparency and negative film of all kinds. You can read more about my drum scans by clicking the button below.
